The San Augustine County Historical Foundation, established in the early 1960s, is a non-profit organization interested in preserving and restoring the county history. With the assistance of two foundations, San Augustine's public records dating back to the 1830s have been preserved. |
The town of San Augustine was in the process of development as early as 1830, and formally recognized by the Mexican government in 1834. At this time an ayuntamiento was established, bringing a formal record-keeping process to the area. The preservation of these early records has been a boon to researchers. San Augustine's rich history is preserved in its records, and is now available for public use. |
